Whilst a daily cleaning and disinfection program is effective in killing vegetative micro-organisms and removing soils it is not sufficient to kill spores that form bacteria. Which include:
- the Bacillus* species
(*causes eye infections, endocarditis (inflammation of the heart), septicemia, pneumonia, meningitis and musculoskeletal infections).
To effectively kill spores that form bacteria a periodic sporicidal disinfection program should be put in place using a hospital-grade sporicidal disinfectant.
In schools this could be at the end of term whilst in health/ aged care quarterly (this is in addition to terminal and outbreak cleaning) and in commercial, corporate and retail settings it could be bi annually.
